Been there. Done it. Pass it on

As part of our 2009 New Zealand Travel Guide, we launched a new initiative to travellers called Been there. Done it. Pass it on. The idea comes from the popular gesture of BookCrossing – or leaving behind a book for someone else to discover; a common trait among travellers.

Been there. Done it. Pass it on was our way of helping our travellers pass on their experiences in an environmentally friendly manner. As a result, our advertisers are being circulated among increasing numbers of travellers who are eager to share their experiences with others.

Throughout the travel guide, readers are encouraged to jot down memorable moments, favourite places, include photographs of magical sights and provide advice for other travellers. Unlike other travel books, the New Zealand Travel Guide acts like a journal; an interactive notebook in which to jot down all your travel discoveries.

Once a reader finishes their travels, we ask them to recycle it by leaving it for another traveller to pick up (whether it’s at a hotel, a coffee shop or a bus!) and use as their new invaluable travel source.

In our business, we are all aware that word of mouth is the strongest form of advertising. Been there. Done it. Pass it on provides our advertisers with an opportunity to be talked about and have an increasing presence in the market.

In conjunction with Been there. Done it. Pass it on, our Travel Forum and Travel Blog are also advertised within the New Zealand Travel Guide, encouraging travellers to log on and leave their comments about their experiences of New Zealand or ask us any travel questions they have. The response has been highly positive and we continue to receive interest daily, proving that people really are passing it on.
